Patio Doors: The Importance of High-Quality Glass

When it’s time to replace your old and worn out patio doors, it’s often the design along with the material that you prioritize over anything else. What most homeowners don’t know is that the glass for these doors is just as important, if not more.

In this post, Renewal by Andersen® of Montana discusses why homeowners should be particular about the kind of glass their replacement patio doors should have.

Glass Performance

Both French and sliding patio doors let in more light than the standard door. Even when the glass is separated by muntins, the sheer size of the door allows more light to enter through the glass. While this does benefit you by daylighting the room, it can get really hot if the glass is inadequate. Even the most heat-resistant materials won’t really help if the glass is letting in more heat.

Exterior Views

When the glass of your patio doors can’t block harsh sunlight, you’re forced to cover the doors up with drapes or curtains. Apart from adding visual weight to the room, covering the patio doors defeats the purpose of the door itself, that is, to bridge the interior and exterior space of your home.

Security

Finally, it’s important that you choose the best glass for your patio doors so that your new hardware is as secure as possible. Low-quality glass can falter when exposed to environmental stresses and inclement weather, and this will have a negative impact on the performance of the door.

At Renewal by Andersen of Montana, we use High-Performance™ Low-E4® glass for our French and sliding doors. These are more energy-efficient than your standard double-pane glass, and will reduce heat build-up and transfer while still allowing enough daylight to brighten up your rooms.

We offer a range of glass options to choose from, such as Low-E4® Sun Glass for dry climates to Smartsun™ glass with HeatLock® Technology™. Give us a call at (406) 259-3944 for more information on the glass packages we have to offer.
