4 Cleaning Tips For Your Windows This Spring

Spring is just around the corner, finally. Now’s a good time to get a head start on your routine home upkeep! One of the best areas to start is your windows. Since they are a significant contributor to your home’s overall comfort and energy efficiency, keeping them in tip-top shape will prepare you for the warmer months ahead.

Renewal by Andersen® of Montana, your trusted source of high-quality sliding windows, shares some spring window cleaning tips to add to your list.

  1. Choose a good timing. Schedule your cleaning on a cloudy day or when your windows won’t get exposed to direct sunlight. Cleaning your windows when on a particularly sunny day can cause streaks to form on the glass since the cleaning solution tends to evaporate quickly.
  1. Use the right cleaning solution. Your window replacement contractor may have indicated solutions that you can and can’t use for your units. Be sure to follow what they recommend to avoid causing damage to the windows or voiding their warranty. As much as possible, don’t use abrasive cleaning solutions because they can be harmful to the glass and framing.
  1. Don’t forget your window screens. Window screens are prone to dust, so make sure to clean them too. Screens are often easily detachable from the window. Once removed, scrub them thoroughly with a non-abrasive brush and the cleaner recommended by the manufacturer.
  1. Wash your windows properly. Place a piece of cloth beneath the windowsill and the floor when cleaning your windows’ interior to help catch spills. If you wipe them dry horizontally on the inside, you should wipe the outside vertically to prevent unwanted streaks.
