Clean and clear picture windows not only make your home look great, but allow you to enjoy those stunning outdoor views, as well. So if you haven’t started your fall window cleaning yet, now is the best time to catch up. Let the premier window company in the area, Renewal by Andersen® of Montana, help you make the task just a little bit easier with this handy checklist.
1. Gather the Stuff You’ll Need
Having the right tools and items allows for faster and easier cleaning, and ensures there’ll be no accidental damage to your windows. Everything you’ll need is available in many stores, which is convenient. Once you’re there, pick these up:
You’ll want to avoid abrasive cleaning solutions, which can make the window glass cloudy, or stiff-bristle brushes, which can leave minor scratches on the frames and glass. Grease removers, newspapers (for drying the windows) and garden hoses are also a no-go.
2. Prepare the Window Area
Remove all window treatments and clear the sill area of any decorative items. If there’s large furniture pushed against the windows, move it elsewhere in the meantime. Using the soft-bristle brush, clean the dust, dirt and grime from the window frames and screens. If you have sliding windows, don’t forget to brush their tracks clean.
3. Clean the Windows
Line the sill area with microfiber cloth to catch drips. Spray the windows with the appropriate cleaner and then wipe down with a clean microfiber cloth, starting at the top and working your way down. If you’re using a squeegee, spread the cleaner on the windows first, then just work the tool from the top of the unit at a slight angle. It’s best to schedule the task on a cloudy day so that the glass cleaner won’t dry too quickly on the panes and leave streaks.
There’ll be a time when seasonal cleaning won’t be enough to keep your windows in shape. When that time comes, turn to Renewal by Andersen of Montana for high-quality window replacement.
