What Makes A Window Energy-Efficient?

Your windows aren’t just for show; they also play a vital role in “naturally” ventilating your home, and as a result, they contribute to your home’s energy efficiency. You can improve your home’s energy efficiency by picking the right windows, but before you do a window replacement, you first need to understand what makes a window energy-efficient. Renewal by Andersen® of Montana discusses more.

The Window’s Glass

The glass on your windows is your home’s first line of defense from UV light intrusion and is generally where most of the light passes through. The glass’ reflectance value is a major factor in your choice; what you want is a high rating so that it reflects more UV light than it’s absorbing.

Our picture windows come with High-Performance™ Low-E4® SmartSun™ glass that’s engineered to be 70% more energy-efficient during summer and 49% more energy efficient in winter compared to ordinary dual pane glass.

Window Material

While the glass is the main component that makes a window energy-efficient, the material the frames are constructed from also plays a role. The sun and harsh elements can take a toll on your window frames, and when this happens, your windows’ operating performance is drastically reduced.

All of our window systems, such as our sliding windows, are made with Fibrex®. This composite material is proven to surpass wood, vinyl, and even aluminum regarding sheer strength and elemental resilience. It can handle inclement weather and is highly resistant to the debilitating effects of the sun.

Proper Installation

How well your windows are installed plays a fundamental role in their performance, and this extends to energy-efficiency. At Renewal by Andersen of Montana, you can count on us to professionally install your new window systems so that they perform well and look good doing it for a very long time.
