4 Simple Window Cleaning Tricks

Given how the windows are one of your home’s most visible design elements, it pays to always keep them looking great. This means conducting regular window cleanup, which not only keeps your units sparkling, but ensures they’re in good working order, as well. To help you get started on this task, Renewal by Andersen® of Montana, the premier windows and doors company, shares some window cleaning tricks.

1. Choose a mild liquid dish detergent as a cleaning solution. You’ll want to avoid those that use harsh chemicals for cleaning your windows. Instead, choose a biodegradable liquid soap that won’t harm the window frames and glass and can protect sensitive plants outside. Mix it with water, put it inside a spray bottle (to minimize drips and mess while window cleaning) and you’re good to go.

2. Use two scrubbers. There should be one dedicated for cleaning the outside of the window and one for the inside part. This way, you can avoid carrying dirt, debris and even pollutants to the inside of the window. Make sure you do the same when cleaning the glass in your sliding doors. And when choosing scrubbers, get ones that have soft bristles to keep your windows intact.

3. Clean your windows on a cloudy day. Doing this task on a sunny day seems like a good idea, but it’s actually better to clean your windows when it’s cloudy out. Otherwise, the cleaning solution will dry on the glass too quickly, leaving streaks and spots that make the window surface harder to clean.

4. Check regularly for streaks. You can do this by wiping one side of the window horizontally, and the other side vertically. If streaks do form on the glass, you’ll easily know whether they’re outside or in.
